fly frames.

Sorry I have been MIA due to working my butt off to graduate in the next month (yikes!) Don't worry, the blog is still breathing, I just had to put it to sleep for a little while. And like this blog, trends are known to resurrect. (See piece puzzle: flannel flare.) As an 80's baby, I have to pay tribute to the trends and fashions during that era that were funky, vibrant, and vivacious. 80's hip hop heavyweights Run-DMC were known for not only changing the game in music, but also for breaking barriers in hip hop style, from their unlaced Adidas to DMC's glasses that would make nerds trendy. Now, about twenty years later, music moguls are bringing those geeky glasses back in style. This eye wear may have people scratching their heads, but this accessory was made for the fashion fearless, such as...

Eclectic R n B singer Kelis.

Hip Hop power house Kanye West.

And of course, Rihanna.

Here's me, rockin' em.

Where to buy: Urban Outfitters(where I got mine.), American Apparel

Some might not comprehend why these large lenses would be considered cool or fashionable, but with these glasses, I can definitely foresee these being worn by those who aren't afraid to embrace their inner nerd.
(Because we all have one...)

puzzle piece: jocks, straps, & buckled boots.

Looking for an alternative from those classic and comfy Ugg boots to wear during the winter season? Make a stylish and smart investment in jockey (also known as Rider) or biker style boots. The jockey boots are more simple, smooth, and sophisticated, while the biker boots have an edgy twist with straps and buckles. Both are tall, leather, and perfect for cold weather. Withstand wind, rain, and snow while looking fabulous in these!
(Top: Tory Burch Jockey boot, Bottom: Steve Madden Biker Boot.)

How to wear: These boots are casual, so not too much effort needs to be put into an outfit including these shoes. They can be worn with a pair of skinny jeans or leggings; a pair of bottoms no bigger than those will be able to fit inside the boot. Jeans should definitely not be worn outside the boot; you won't be able to see the detailing that makes the shoe hot!

Where to wear: You can wear these anywhere from the classroom to a low key party, depending on the upper half of the outfit. However, don't step your well dressed foot in the club with these boots...

Where to buy: Steve Madden has a nice collection in their boot section. Tory Burch has a great selection of Jockey/Rider boots, but they are on the pricier side. Jessica Simpson has a good collection of reasonably priced Jockey and Rider boots. Buy them while you can, these trendy items are selling out fast!

Celeb Style:

Lindsay Lohan

Rihanna:

I got these Tory Burch Jockeys as a little X mas gift. I wore them for the first day of classes after break. I wore it with a casual boyfriend button up that I belted and cotton leggings from Express.

puzzle solved.

rihanna graces gucci.

Songstress and style icon Rihanna collaborated with designer brand Gucci for its newest Tattoo Heart Collection campaign to benefit UNICEF. 25% of sales made from the collection will be donated to support the UNICEF programs that aid orphans and children affected with HIV and AIDS. Rihanna partnered with Creative director Frida Giannini, who designed the collection, for the ads shot this September in Milan. I intuitively believe Rihanna inspired the idea for the tattoo emulated adornments on the accessories since she has a solid collection of her own tats. The double page spread featuring RiRi, fabulously stretched out on what looks like a ring swing (pictured above), appears in the newest issues of Elle and InStyle Magazine.

Here she is draped in a mauve Gucci gown at the Tattoo Heart Collection Launch event this past November.

The collection will be sold from November 19 until January 31, 2009. Take a look at the TATTOO HEART COLLECTION which includes bags, shoes, a necklace and a scarf.
What do you think about the designs, yay or nay? (Take the poll!)

style snag: rihanna & selita ebanks.

when femininity met masculinity.

Songstress Rihanna is a style icon for being fashionably fearless. Supermodel Selita Ebanksone of the (darker) faces of Victoria Secret, obviously oozes sex appeal (its her job.) Both have mastered being subtly sleek with adding a masculine touch to their identical outfits. A slouch sleeved blazer provides a professional and powerful pizazz to the sexy simplicity of a slinky blouse with a fitted skirt and fierce heels. Though the looks are similar, Rihanna's graphic tee provides a playful edge, while Selita remains effortlessly elegant.

Steal this look for cheap(er)!

Selita:

I am exploring my own masculine femininity with this crisp bow tie button up I bought from MNG by MANGO (think Zara.)

... very Sarah J if I must say so myself.

piece puzzle: leather love.

From top to bottom, this smooth and thick material brings edge to any outfit.

part 1-- leggings.

How to wear: Pair these tight sexy bottoms with an oversized, flowy top for balance. Keep it casual by throwing a cute fitted T. Add on a blazer for a more tailored look.

Where to wear: Preferably, wear these out under the stars. They are perfectly appropriate for a night out to a club or a lounge. If you dare to wear these at day, keep the leggings out of the classroom or business place.

Where to buy: American Apparel, Express, Armani Exchange. (These leggings are sold as faux leather or shiny material that mimics leather, but it all looks equally hot!)

Celeb Style:

Rihanna

Christina Milian

Lauren Conrad

Mary Kate

How I do it:

I have on Black Eel Leggings from American Apparel.

part ii-- jacket.

Where to wear: Technically, since this a jacket, it is permissible to wear anywhere. This is the perfect item to have in the fall season and will do it's job in keeping you warm and stylish.

How to wear: Again, since it's a jacket, there isn't a huge limit to what you can wear this with. This can edge out a clean preppy look or cool down an elegant outfit.

Where to buy: Express, Urban Outfitters

Celeb Style:

Rihanna (of course)

Lindsay Lohan:

Lauren Conrad:

I have one from Urban Outfitters (it's faux, but good faux!)

Puzzle solved.

welcome.

I realize that as a budding fashion  journalist, that I should to put my writing skills and knowledge of fashion to solid use. Thus, the birth of this blog.  (Warning: I'm a huge fan of alliteration.)

First off, I will start off by saying that I have a disease.  The symptoms include a fervor of designer labels, an indulgence of  apparel, and an uncontrollable obsession with all things fashion.

I'm not searching for a cure.

This blog is dedicated to everyone and anyone who has this disease, aka glam goddesses.

Let's spread it.

Why Glam Goddess?
Well, I am currently making it a habit to be in front of my TV on Thursday nights at 10 to watch the new VH1 show "Glam God." It's  hosted by Vivica A. Fox, who is supposedly known for being a red carpet diva (this is new news to me too.) The premise is that aspiring stylists compete in challenges that put their styling skills to the test. The winner receives a cash prize of $100, 000, an opportunity to join a major styling agency, and "the coveted title of being the ultimate 'Glam God'."
As I watch the show, I realize that styling is all about making the right choices. This is something I go through everyday, whether it's deciding on what to wear to class, or work, or for a night out on the town. No matter where, I always make this an essential daily process-- and its the one moment of my day that I actually consistently enjoy.  I feel that I want to pass my knowledge of style with those who lack it, and share my passion for those who don't.

Occupation destination-- GLAM GODDESS.

A little bit about myself:
Me and my sister Erica always complain about how we we should have been born into inheritance (I.e., The Hilton's). I always have a craving for luxurious lines and couture clothing. It's actually more of an addiction.
I see fashion as live art, art that is wearable. Many people may not understand or acknowledge that fashion is an important part of our daily lives. We have to wear clothes everyday, don't we? We always make the choice of what to wear each day. However, what sets the Glam Goddesses (and Gods) apart from others is that we actually take the time to care.

My fashion icons:

Rihanna, for her eclectic taste. She takes chances and she's west Indian. Not to mention a unique beauty. LOVE HER.

Lauren Conrad, for her simplicity. She's always sophisticated and clean. She embodies my style the most.

Favorite Designer:

Chanel's timeless elegance. I adore the feminine quality of the designs and the use of tweed fabrics, and jeweled adornments. Class & sophistication at it's best.

Kudos to: Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenburg, & Tory Burch.

The Shoe GOD:

Christian Louboutin. The Master of the red sole. The genius of the female pump. In the words of Rachel Zoe: "I die."

Bury me in Chanel and Loubs, at least I know I died and went to heaven looking fierce.
