a touch of color in vogue.

When I flipped through the latest January 09 issue of Vogue, with Ms. Pretty 'n Pale herself Anne Hathaway on the cover, I couldn't help but notice that this edition included more Black (and of course fabulous) faces than usual. Smack dab in the middle of the magazine starting at page 85 are famous African American figures that will change the future. Of course and obviously President-elect Barack Obama along with his future first lady are a couple of those people, featured in the Vogue Point of View spread. Beautiful portraits of the Obamas, photographed by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz were apart of the layout. I must say, Michelle looks absolutely radiant and regal in her teal subtly couture gown designed by Narciso Rodriguez (yes, surprisingly this is the same designer who created that catastrophes of a dress she wore during Obama's election victory.)

Here are some of the pages of Vogue with the Obamas (I had to snap them because I couldn't find the pics online.)
Immediately following that, my two new favorite models, Chanel Iman and Jourdan Dunn are in a 16-page fashion story entitled "Magical Realism," modeling designer clothes from Marc Jacobs to Louis Vuitton. Iman and Dunn capture the idea of modeling with movement, making these clothes flow and flare with their tribal-like ponytails slinging in the air. These Black and ground breaking ladies are shaping a new mold and leading the new crop of colored models that will hopefully be more present in prominent fashion magazines, shows, and ads.

Vogue Italia managed to dedicate a whole issue to black models, but who's to say that will stay consistent? I also couldn't help but notice that in this issue all the people of color are grouped in the center pages of the magazine where you can't miss them. Was that purposefully done to excuse the notion that not enough black people appear in Vogue? And once they are placed, will the next issue feature just as much, or more... or not as much... or none at all? Not to say that I'm not happy to see these faces of color (I wouldn't have thought it to be important to blog blurb about if I wasn't) but the issue remains a cloud hovering over the fashion world.

the winning look.

The votes are in and the people have voiced their opinion. With 40% of the votes, the winning look is the Black and White belted and ruffled David Szeto frock with the White Louboutin Slingbacks. I accessorized with Vera Wang pearl earrings and a pearl bracelet along with a red Chanel quilted clutch.

The runner up was the Black collared and bow wrapped Diane Von Furstenberg, with nine votes trailing very close behind with 36%. The Teal patterned and wrapped Diane had 24 % of your votes. Though the David Szeto won, I'm sure all looks would have looked beautiful on the woman of the white house, Mrs. O.

fashion mission for michelle O.

because mrs. obama is now our first lady, her domineering presence will be in the public eye a lot more. so inspired by her new and well earned position, I am continuing my mission  of making michelle O the next Jackie O.

I came up with a couple of outfits that I feel are fitting for the new first lady. which one would be a winner? take the poll (on the right.)
#1 Dress: Diane Von Furstenberg, Shoes: Chanel
#2 Dress: Diane Von Furstenberg, Shoes: Louboutin,
#3 Dress: David Szeto, Shoes: Louboutin
the winning outfit that will be determined by the end of the week will be completed in a set.

first lady fashion part ii.

here is another outfit I styled for mrs. O. i decided to upgrade her ensemble she wore to (I think) the DNC.

Dress: Zac Posen (he is a perfect fit for her!), Jacket: Phillip Lim (opened), Earrings: Chanel, Shoes: Christian Louboutin, Bag: Louis V.

well...?

first lady fashion.

since mrs. obama seems to be a bit misguided when it comes to style, I was inspired to create a set updating her look.

when I saw this Bill Blass dress, I immediately thought this would be perfect for her. not straying away from conservative and giving the neckline much drama and her curves some modest attention. I chose these louboutin slingbacks with a lower heel since michelle is relatively tall (a red sole is good for the soul.) the quilted chanel adds that much needed pop of color to the ensemble (blue for democrat of course.) and some bangles and dangles for jewelry (i would prefer the earrings to not have the chanel overlaying c's signature.)

what do we think? yes, no?

i will be coming up with some more possible looks, since i am on a mission to save our first lady from fashion faux pas.

set update.

Here are some more sets I created on polyvore.com

style snag.

Beyonce: Urban Chic

Beyonce
is the mistresses of the cute casual look. In this particular outfit, she manages to looks chic, yet comfortable. The tweed Chanel cardigan provides a sophistication along with the swanky blouse and wide legged khaki trousers. The subtle accessories of the hooped earrings and newsboy cap gives it an urban flare. Her addition of heels pumps up the volume of this ensemble.

Steal this look for cheap(er)!

fashion on your iphone.

Fashion week in your palm and at your tips.

Apple has made Bryant Park accessible to us average aficionados who can't afford tickets. The Style.com app includes updates and coverage of current couture and RTW (ready-to-wear) collections. It features a slideshow of pics  from fashion designers 3 through Z (3.1 Phillip Lim - Zac Posen) that showed under the tent. The best part-- the app is downloadably free!  To retrieve this amazing application, just go to the App Store and search for Style.com.

The bar has been officially raised. Your move Instinct... (Just to think I might have gotten this phone and missed out on this opportunity!)

It shouldn't be a question whether or not I have it DLed on my 3G...

Chanel has it's own separate app, which is also a free DL. I discovered Style.com after Chanel, but you can never have too many of these apps on your phone! This app has the same details as Style.com, but the only downside is that it's pretty restricted. (The Style.com app includes Chanel's Spring 2009 couture line.) The only exception is the Chanel app allows you to see the details of individual looks on the runway by turning it horizontally.

Don't have an iPhone?
What's wrong with you...? (LOL, I kid.) Go to Style.com site and get all the latest hum on fash.

welcome.

I realize that as a budding fashion  journalist, that I should to put my writing skills and knowledge of fashion to solid use. Thus, the birth of this blog.  (Warning: I'm a huge fan of alliteration.)

First off, I will start off by saying that I have a disease.  The symptoms include a fervor of designer labels, an indulgence of  apparel, and an uncontrollable obsession with all things fashion.

I'm not searching for a cure.

This blog is dedicated to everyone and anyone who has this disease, aka glam goddesses.

Let's spread it.

Why Glam Goddess?
Well, I am currently making it a habit to be in front of my TV on Thursday nights at 10 to watch the new VH1 show "Glam God." It's  hosted by Vivica A. Fox, who is supposedly known for being a red carpet diva (this is new news to me too.) The premise is that aspiring stylists compete in challenges that put their styling skills to the test. The winner receives a cash prize of $100, 000, an opportunity to join a major styling agency, and "the coveted title of being the ultimate 'Glam God'."
As I watch the show, I realize that styling is all about making the right choices. This is something I go through everyday, whether it's deciding on what to wear to class, or work, or for a night out on the town. No matter where, I always make this an essential daily process-- and its the one moment of my day that I actually consistently enjoy.  I feel that I want to pass my knowledge of style with those who lack it, and share my passion for those who don't.

Occupation destination-- GLAM GODDESS.

A little bit about myself:
Me and my sister Erica always complain about how we we should have been born into inheritance (I.e., The Hilton's). I always have a craving for luxurious lines and couture clothing. It's actually more of an addiction.
I see fashion as live art, art that is wearable. Many people may not understand or acknowledge that fashion is an important part of our daily lives. We have to wear clothes everyday, don't we? We always make the choice of what to wear each day. However, what sets the Glam Goddesses (and Gods) apart from others is that we actually take the time to care.

My fashion icons:

Rihanna, for her eclectic taste. She takes chances and she's west Indian. Not to mention a unique beauty. LOVE HER.

Lauren Conrad, for her simplicity. She's always sophisticated and clean. She embodies my style the most.

Favorite Designer:

Chanel's timeless elegance. I adore the feminine quality of the designs and the use of tweed fabrics, and jeweled adornments. Class & sophistication at it's best.

Kudos to: Michael Kors, Diane Von Furstenburg, & Tory Burch.

The Shoe GOD:

Christian Louboutin. The Master of the red sole. The genius of the female pump. In the words of Rachel Zoe: "I die."

Bury me in Chanel and Loubs, at least I know I died and went to heaven looking fierce.
